First flying lesson

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone / Alnwick Castle

First Flying Lesson

The students of Hogwarts, including Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco, and others, gather in the courtyard at Alnwick Castle for their first flying lesson. Madam Hooch, the flying instructor, instructs the students to stand next to their brooms and say “Up!” to make them rise. Harry confidently commands his broom with a firm “Up!” and it immediately responds, rising into his hand. Meanwhile, Ron struggles, and Hermione attempts with determination but less success. The students express a mix of excitement and nervousness.

Madam Hooch demonstrates how to mount the broom correctly and cautions them to wait for her signal before taking off. Neville Longbottom, however, loses control and is accidentally lifted into the air. He flies erratically, crashing into the castle walls before falling and injuring his wrist. While Madam Hooch escorts Neville to the hospital wing, Draco seizes the opportunity to taunt and take Neville’s Remembrall. Harry bravely challenges Draco, showcasing his natural flying talent by hovering above the ground, marking the beginning of his journey as a skilled Quidditch player.
